The Book on Government

باب وُجُوبِ طَاعَةِ الأُمَرَاءِ فِي غَيْرِ مَعْصِيَةٍ وَتَحْرِيمِهَا فِي الْمَعْصِيَةِ ‏‏

The obligation of obeying leaders in matters that do not involve sin, but it is forbidden to obey them in sinful matters

وَحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعُ بْنُ الْجَرَّاحِ، عَنْ شُعْبَةَ، بِهَذَا الإِسْنَادِ وَقَالَ عَبْدًا حَبَشِيًّا مُجَدَّعًا

Another version of the tradition does not qualify the slave with the epithets" maimed,"" an Abyssinian" but makes the addition: In other versions of the above tradition, the wordings are" an Abyssinian slave." and" a maimed Abyssinian slave".
