Book 31 (Supplication), Hadith 119
Supplication
حَدَّثَنَا بِشْرٌ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا مُوسَى بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي الْحَكَمُ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي عِكْرِمَةُ، أَنَّ ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ كَانَ إِذَا سَمِعَ صَوْتَ الرَّعْدِ قَالَ: سُبْحَانَ الَّذِي سَبَّحْتَ لَهُ، قَالَ: إِنَّ الرَّعْدَ مَلَكٌ يَنْعِقُ بِالْغَيْثِ، كَمَا يَنْعِقُ الرَّاعِي بِغَنَمِهِ.
Ibn Abbas (ra) made this supplication when he heard a cloud burst: “Glory be to him whom you glorified.” He said that the thunderclap is an angel who yells at the rainclouds as a shepherd yells at his sheep/goats.
